PLEASE NOTE: SOME CLASSES ARE HELD ONLINE USING ZOOM. SOME CLASSES ARE IN-STUDIO AS WELL AS BY ZOOM (HYBRID).

Winter Session runs for 10 weeks between Jan 3 – March 13, 2022 and is open for registration.

We will need to have a minimum number of students enrolled in a class series in order for it to continue beyond the first meeting. If minimum enrollment for the series has not been met before the second class, the class will be removed from the schedule.

Due to Covid space restrictions, single class purchases will not be allowed the first week for in-person classes that usually fill to capacity. This prioritizes registration to students who wish to attend the entire series. Drop-in purchases will be allowed after week #1, if space allows. Thank you for your understanding as we tweak policies in order to maintain financial sustainability during these challenging times.

Make-ups may be taken during the 10-week session but may not be carried over to the next session.

Ballet – Daytime sections!

Studying ballet is one of the most effective and elegant ways of improving posture, grace, flexibility, and strength. It is considered to be an excellent foundation for many other forms of dance. No experience needed for the beginning classes; one year of training is recommended for advanced beginning, barre and mixed-level classes, at least 2 for intermediate and 3-4 years for intermediate/advanced.

Ballet Awareness

In this class, students will gain a deeper insight into the technical foundations of ballet and discover how to move through the classical form with special attention to initiation, articulation and alignment. Class begins with breathing and body awareness exercises, and progresses to simple barre and center exercises done slowly and mindfully. For beginners and experienced dancers alike.

Ballet Basics

Are you brand-new to ballet? Then this is the place to start! Most beginner-level classes are populated by students who may have had at least a little ballet training. This introductory class will start from square one, explaining ballet terminology and introducing proper technique. Students who would like a review of the basics are also welcome.

Bollywood Dance

Bollywood is the name given to the style of dancing seen in popular Indian musical films. It is an exciting fusion of many different styles, including classical Indian dance, hip-hop, belly dance, Latin dance and more. Brazilian Samba

Contemporary

Based in ballet and modern dance, this contemporary class will teach choreography and phrases, often using emotion or music to motivate the movement. We will explore different movement qualities such as fluidity verses sharp movements, using accents, floor work, and more. Some experience recommended but brave beginners are very welcome.

This fun class will focus on several contemporary dance styles, including jazz, modern, and lyrical, with perhaps a little improv thrown in for good measure. The basics class is suitable for total beginners; the mixed level is suitable for students with some dance experience.

Contemporary Explorations

This is an exploratory class focused on sensation, pleasure, and expanding our scope of imagination. After a warm-up, we will play improvisational games in the center and across the floor and end with a dance combination based on our work/play in class. Flamenco

If you have seen and been excited by this dynamic and passionate Spanish dance form, this class is for you! Fosse to Funk: Jazz Styles –NEW!

Fosse to Funk is a mixed-level exploration of some of the many styles of jazz dance. Classes begin with a warm up using traditional jazz techniques that emphasize rhythm, isolations, and proper alignment, and finish with engaging choreography inspired by some of the most popular styles of jazz technique. Hip-Hop

Hip-hop dance is a street dance evolved from hip-hop culture and includes a range of styles, such as breaking, popping and locking. After a warm-up, class will focus on learning short combinations done to hip-hop music. Jazz Funk

This class uses a blend of dance styles in fun and funky choreography set to upbeat pop music. We do a thorough warmup utilizing traditional jazz and modern technique. We build strength, stamina, alignment and fluidity that facilitate dancers expressing through the choreography. This class is very high energy and fun! Some dance experience recommended, but adventurous beginners welcome.

Modern dance evolved as a rebellion against the formality of ballet; it is more free and expressive but still emphasizes proper alignment and technique. Modern Jazz

This soulful modern jazz dance class is based in the technique of legendary jazz dance teacher, Luigi. After a grounding warm-up, students will be challenged from the outside in and trained in both the expression and execution of movement. Set to eclectic, atmospheric and heart-thumping music, this modern jazz class will equip you with ballet foundations as well as with modern and jazz dance vocabulary and will keep you engaged, sweaty, and inspired. At least one year of dance training recommended for this intermediate/advanced-level class.

Tap

Everybody has rhythm. This class will help you find it and express it! We’ll work on tap dance fundamentals and apply them to choreography and improvisation to different types of music. One year of tap experience recommended for the intermediate class. For the beginners class, tap shoes are not required. Hard-soled shoes on a non-carpeted floor should be sufficient.

Solo Salsa

Let’s explore solo salsa, an easy way to learn the movement, technique and footwork of this fun and energetic dance form. In the Level 1 class, you’ll learn the basic movements, techniques and footwork of this fun and energetic dance. Level 2 will explore different rhythms and movement in greater detail. The Level 3 class will take you to the next level, focusing on spinning techniques and additional footwork and range of motion. Level 2 and 3 students should have taken Level 1 and 2, respectively, though exceptions may be made with teacher approval. Light sneakers or even thin socks are great options for all levels. More advanced students may choose dance heels that allow for easy turns.

Please note: This series is for solo dancers; there will be no partnering. Couples should attend the couples Latin Dance Sampler class.

Latin Dance Sampler (for Couples)

In this partner class series, you’ll be introduced to the popular Latin dances of salsa, cha-cha and bachata, learning fun, easy steps designed especially for couples. No experience necessary. We will offer gender-neutral lead/follow techniques and all couples are welcome.

This class is a fusion of barre fitness and Balletone®, combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, and yoga. This class will be full of upbeat dance music and fun. We will start with ten minutes of cardio dance routines, followed by a full-body toning experience utilizing the barre and mats. The Pilates Method has become a favorite of dancers and others for its effectiveness in promoting flexibility and long, lean muscles. SharQui: Belly Dance Fitness

Get ready to shimmy and sweat in this new Bellydance Fitness Class! In each class, you’ll learn easy-to-follow belly dance combinations using a dynamic teaching system known as SharQui (pronounced Shar-‘Key), developed by world famous bellydancer, Oreet. Strengthen, Stretch and Relax

This class is especially designed to help you feel grounded, strong, and calm. Come as you are: tired, overwhelmed, anxious, stiff/sore, whatever! At the beginning of class we will check in so that we can address any “sticky places” that might want special attention.  Using elements of yoga, dance, and mindfulness meditation you will leave feeling more resilient and at ease in your mind and body. It’s a great way to “let go of the day” and prepare for restful sleep. Feel free to join in your jammies!

This class welcomes all, regardless of age, physical ability, movement experience, fitness “level”, etc.
