PLEASE NOTE: MOST CLASSES ARE HELD ONLINE USING ZOOM. SOME CLASSES ARE IN-STUDIO AS WELL AS BY ZOOM (HYBRID).

Summer Session runs for 6 weeks between June 1 – July 11 and is open for registration. There are no classes Sunday, July 4th. Sunday and Monday classes will only meet for 5 weeks.

We will need to have a minimum number of students enrolled in a class series in order for it to continue beyond the first meeting. If minimum enrollment for the series has not been met before the second class, the class will be removed from the schedule.

Make-ups may be taken during the 6-week session but may not be carried over to the next session.

AfroBeats-NEW CLASS!

Afrobeats is an eclectic style originating predominantly from West Africa. It evolved from traditional African dance styles as a response to the energetic, upbeat rhythms of Afrobeats music. In this class, you’ll learn the fundamentals and move on to playful footwork and catchy moves; it is beginner-friendly but fun for dancers of all levels.

Afro-Caribbean Mix

This class will explore the different dances from the African Diaspora in the Caribbean Islands and their modern forms such as Soca, Afro-Beats, Dembow, Reggae, Reggaetón, Bomba, etc. Exploring Katherine Dunham, an early modern dancer who has been called “the queen of black dance.” Bringing together African, Caribbean ritual, social dance and concert dance, this class focuses on developing strength, stamina, flexibility, quick feet movements and the ability to fully and rapidly undulate the torso. The class creates a dance community that nurtures, heals, renews, and inspires body and spirit.

Studying ballet is one of the most effective and elegant ways of improving posture, grace, flexibility, and strength. It is considered to be an excellent foundation for many other forms of dance. Ballet Awarenesss

In this class, students will gain a deeper insight into the technical foundations of ballet and discover how to move through the classical form with special attention to initiation, articulation and alignment. Class begins with breathing and body awareness exercises, and progresses to simple barre and center exercises done slowly and mindfully. For beginners and experienced dancers alike.

Ballet Basics –NEW CLASS!

Are you brand-new to ballet? Then this is the place to start! Most beginner-level classes are populated by students who may have had at least a little ballet training. This introductory class will start from square one, explaining ballet terminology and introducing proper technique. Students who would like a review of the basics are also welcome.

Bollywood Dance

Bollywood is the name given to the style of dancing seen in popular Indian musical films. It is an exciting fusion of many different styles, including classical Indian dance, hip-hop, belly dance, Latin dance and more. Contemporary

Based in ballet and modern dance, this contemporary class will teach choreography and phrases, often using emotion or music to motivate the movement. We will explore different movement qualities such as fluidity verses sharp movements, using accents, floor work, and more. Some experience recommended but brave beginners are very welcome.

Contemporary Explorations

This is an exploratory class focused on sensation, pleasure, and expanding our scope of imagination. After a warm-up, we will play improvisational games in the center and across the floor and end with a dance combination based on our work/play in class. Flamenco

If you have seen and been excited by this dynamic and passionate Spanish dance form, this class is for you! You’ll be introduced to all its components: the music, beautiful arm and hand movements, aggressive footwork, use of the skirt, rhythmic clapping and castanets. No experience needed for the beginning class; continuing students should be comfortable with basic footwork. Wear shoes with a sturdy 2-inch heel, and bring all your enthusiasm!

Modern dance evolved as a rebellion against the formality of ballet; it is more free and expressive but still emphasizes proper alignment and technique. Modern Jazz

This soulful modern jazz dance class is based in the technique of legendary jazz dance teacher, Luigi. After a grounding warm-up, students will be challenged from the outside in and trained in both the expression and execution of movement. Set to eclectic, atmospheric and heart-thumping music, this modern jazz class will equip you with ballet foundations as well as with modern and jazz dance vocabulary and will keep you engaged, sweaty, and inspired. At least one year of dance training recommended for this intermediate/advanced-level class.

Tap

Everybody has rhythm. This class will help you find it and express it! We’ll work on tap dance fundamentals and apply them to choreography and improvisation to different types of music. One year of tap experience recommended for the intermediate class. For the beginners class, tap shoes are not required. Hard-soled shoes on a non-carpeted floor should be sufficient.

Movement for the Moment

This class is especially designed to help you feel grounded, strong, and connected to yourself and others during this pandemic moment and beyond. Come as you are: tired, overwhelmed, anxious, stiff/sore, whatever! At the beginning of class we will check in so that we can address any “sticky places” that might want special attention.  Using elements of yoga, dance, and mindfulness meditation you will leave feeling more calm, resilient, and at ease in your mind and body. It’s a great way to “let go of the day” and prepare for restful sleep. Feel free to join in your jammies! Pilates Mat

The Pilates Method has become a favorite of dancers and others for its effectiveness in promoting flexibility and long, lean muscles. (Coming Out Of) Quarantine Fitness

Self-Care for Stressed Bodies – Free for BIPOC and anyone unable to pay

In these unsettling times, we can all benefit from some extra self-care. This donation-based class will center around mental and physical wellness and is designed for anyone who wants to increase, develop or add to their wellness toolbox. Exercises include breath work, meditative techniques, and body work such as targeted muscle stretches and exercises to release pain and tension as well as improving body, mind, and spirits. This class is for all stressed bodies. For all walks of life. Movers and non-movers alike.
