DancePhoria Pride Performance Workshop
This workshop is for students of all levels and culminates in a performance at the Durham Pride Parade on October 3. Students will learn a fun, accessible routine which incorporates excerpts of three songs (dance, funk, and pop), and will practice moving together as a cohesive dance unit. The performance is NOT about perfection, but about sharing the joy of dance with the community. A final session will occur on Sept. 27 at an outdoor location in order to become more comfortable performing in a parade setting.

Vogue
Back by popular demand, this sassy, super fierce, fun workshop will go over all the 5 basic Elements of Vogue (hand performance, floor performance, catwalk, duck walk, and dips & spins). Designed to sharpen performance quality, core strength, musicality, and proper alignment, this workshop is friendly and open enough for beginners and can be modified for advanced dancers. All are welcome as we celebrate the culture of ballroom in the vogue community. If you missed this workshop this summer, now’s your chance!

Garba: Clap, Twirl, Repeat!
Navratri’s coming, and it’s time to get your spin on! Join us for a fun, easygoing Garba workshop where we’ll break down the classic steps and moves of this joyful circle dance from Gujarat, India. Over nine nights, Navratri honors nine different forms of the goddess Durga – and Garba is how we celebrate her and the goddess within, circle after circle, night after night. No experience needed – just comfy clothes, good energy, and maybe a friend to twirl with. By the end, you’ll be ready to hold your own at any garba celebration this season!

Beginner Heels Floorwork Series
This four-week series will cover the basics of floorwork for heels dancing, getting comfortable moving on the floor, and building confidence in your movement. Focusing on foundational movements, transitions, shapes, control, and flow, we’ll gradually build the strength, mobility, and body awareness needed for floorwork through conditioning and flexibility exercises. No prior floorwork experience is required. This is a beginner-friendly space to learn, explore, and get comfortable getting low! Kneepads are highly recommended. Wear heels you can move in comfortably and safely; ballroom/salsa shoes are great!

Turn Up Breakdown
All right party people! If you love Turn Up, have been wanting to try it or just wanna dance, let’s goooo! We are going to turn it up then break it down! We will have an abbreviated class and turn all the way up because that’s what we do! Then we will pick up to 3 songs and break down the choreography, bit by bit. We’ll get in reps, so we can really nail it and perform! There will be time at the end for anyone who wants to record! Keep the video as a memento, share it, review the choreo or don’t! Either way we’re turning up and having FUN!

Queer Lindy
Lindy Hop is a dance that came out of the Harlem Renaissance and included and was adjacent to queer communities from the very beginning. Despite its use of some elements and vocabulary from ballroom dancing, Lindy Hop is an ideal dance to explore themes of mutual empowerment and improvisation in a way that often feels extra inviting to queer people. We will learn the basics of Lindy Hop with an emphasis on shared movement and mutual empowerment, as well as talk about how original and modern queer dancers shape the dance. No dance experience or partner required, come in comfortable clothes and shoes that allow you to move easily.

Whether you’re in your Red era or 1989, this is your sign to Be Fearless and Shake It Off with us!

Salsa Styling
This beginner/intermediate workshop will focus on strengthening and styling your basics! We will learn “shine” movements (solo patterns) and dive deeper into body rhythm and musicality. We’ll also break down the musical and instrumental components, helping bridge the gap between hearing the music and feeling the music. You’ll leave with a closer mind-body connection, improved basics, new styling, and a better understanding of what makes Salsa so special! (This class will focus on Eddie Torres’ on2 Salsa, which differs from on1, but can be easily translated.) No experience required, but be ready for a fun challenge!

Reggaeton Choreography Challenge
Did someone say Tokischa? Young Miko? Bad Bunny? Get ready to move to a mix of some of the most popular reggaeton hits of today. We’ll work on finding our flow, isolations, and moving our hips to that dembow beat! Learn some fun choreography, work up a sweat, and learn about how reggaeton music came about! All levels welcome.

The Lindy Shim Sham
Choreographed by Frankie Manning, the Lindy version of the classic tap line dance has become a staple of swing and Lindy Hop dances across the world. Have you seen the whole crowd join as one to do this routine together? Now you can too! We will cover the choreography as well as variations to make it easier and expressive. Does not require swing or Lindy Hop experience. Come in comfortable clothes ready to sweat.

Due to space restrictions, single class purchases will not be allowed the first week for in-person classes that usually fill to capacity. This prioritizes registration to students who wish to attend the entire series. Drop-in purchases will be allowed after week #1, if space allows.
