Intro to Solo Jazz for Swing Dancers

Solo jazz (also called ‘vernacular jazz’) is all about having fun dancing by yourself and with others to swing music, but without a physical partner connection. Solo jazz can give dancers the confidence to dance swing both partnered and solo on the dance floor- and anywhere! As we tune in to jazz music of the 20s, 30s, and 40s, we’ll explore the building blocks of solo dancing such as rhythms and classic moves that you can use as inspiration. No previous dance experience is necessary, but if you know some Lindy Hop you’ll definitely bounce right in.

Merengue

Anyone can merengue! Merengue is a super fun, highly versatile, and quickly rewarding Latin partner dance that you are sure to love! In this beginner-level crash course, you’ll be introduced to lead/follow techniques, Latin dancing basics, and basic merengue footwork, and then progress to learning a variety of additional steps that will make this dance an endless source of fun and enjoyment you can take with you wherever you go! No experience necessary. We will offer gender-neutral lead/follow techniques. Pairs and singles are both welcome! If registering as a pair, please register both participants..

Chair Dance

In this Intermediate-Brave Beginner Chair Dance workshop, participants will learn sensual moves that boost confidence and sensuality. Using a chair as a centerpiece, this workshop will combine Burlesque elements with Heels technique and choreography for a playful, sexy, and expressive experience. Heels and comfortable, empowering attire are encouraged. Knee pads are strongly suggested for added comfort.

Chairs are provided.

Tribal Funk

Tribal Funk was a style created by teacher and choreographer Misty RasconSmith. This Hip-Hop style is strongly influenced by Native and African dances. It’s low and loose and a little fast at times. Please bring sneakers you’re comfortable dancing in and prepare to be a little bit sore the following day.
