PLEASE NOTE: ALL CLASSES ARE HELD ONLINE USING ZOOM

Fall Session #2 runs for 9 weeks between Oct 19 – Dec. 20 (no classes Wed, Nov. 26 or Thurs, Nov. 27) and is open for registration.

We strongly encourage you to register for the entire 9-week session of the class(es) of your choice, if your budget will allow. We will need to have a minimum number of students enrolled in any particular class in order for it to continue. All classes will meet the first week of the session, and drop-ins will be allowed. Thereafter, we will continue to accept drop-ins only after minimum enrollment is met. If minimum enrollment has not been met before the second class, the class will be removed from the schedule.

Enrolled students will be notified if their class has to be cancelled and may choose another class or a refund/store credit. Make-ups may be taken during the 9-week session but may not be carried over to the next session.

Afro-Caribbean Mix

This class will explore the different dances from the African Diaspora in the Caribbean Islands and their modern forms such as Soca, Afro-Beats, Dembow, Reggae, Reggaetón, Bomba, etc. Exploring Katherine Dunham, an early modern dancer who has been called “the queen of black dance.” Bringing together African, Caribbean ritual, social dance and concert dance, this class focuses on developing strength, stamina, flexibility, quick feet movements and the ability to fully and rapidly undulate the torso. The class creates a dance community that nurtures, heals, renews, and inspires body and spirit.

Ballet – Daytime sections!

Studying ballet is one of the most effective and elegant ways of improving posture, grace, flexibility, and strength. It is considered to be an excellent foundation for many other forms of dance. No experience needed for the beginning classes; one year of training is recommended for advanced beginning, barre and mixed-level classes, and at least two for intermediate and intermediate/advanced. The Pointe/Pointe Prep class, which may be done in pointe shoes or on demi-pointe, will focus on ankle-strengthening exercises; students must also enroll in the mixed-level class preceding it.

Ballet Awarenesss

In this class, students will gain a deeper insight into the technical foundations of ballet and discover how to move through the classical form with special attention to initiation, articulation and alignment. Class begins with breathing and body awareness exercises, and progresses to simple barre and center exercises done slowly and mindfully. For beginners and experienced dancers alike.

Bollywood Dance

Bollywood is the name given to the style of dancing seen in popular Indian musical films. It is an exciting fusion of many different styles, including classical Indian dance, hip-hop, belly dance, Latin dance and more. This class will bring out your inner Bollywood superstar, while giving you a fun workout!

Brazilian Samba

Students will take an imaginary journey to Rio de Janeiro as they experience the lively movements of Brazilian Samba! Prepare for a workout as you learn the fast footwork, elegant body movements and spirited choreography of this sensual dance.

Contemporary

Based in ballet and modern dance, this contemporary class will teach choreography and phrases, often using emotion or music to motivate the movement. We will explore different movement qualities such as fluidity verses sharp movements, using accents, etc, floor work, etc. One year prior training recommended for the intermediate class.

Contemporary Explorations

This is an exploratory class focused on sensation, pleasure, and expanding our scope of imagination. After a warm-up, we will play improvisational games in the center and across the floor and end with a dance combination based on our work/play in class. No experience needed, just the willingness to break patterns and connect more deeply with the tools we have already accumulated during our lives.

Dance Video Divas

Have you ever watched a Beyoncé or Britney video and wanted to learn the dance yourself? This class shows you how to do just that! After a short warm-up, this fun class will focus on a step-by-step breakdown of the original choreography from your favorite music videos (with credit to the choreographers, of course). We’ll even take requests! Don’t miss your chance to dance like Michael, Janet, Beyoncé, N*Sync, J.Lo, Aaliyah and more!

Flamenco

If you have seen and been excited by this dynamic and passionate Spanish dance form, this class is for you! You’ll be introduced to all its components: the music, beautiful arm and hand movements, aggressive footwork, use of the skirt, rhythmic clapping and castanets. No experience needed for the beginning class; continuing students should be comfortable with basic footwork. Wear shoes with a sturdy 2-inch heel, and bring all your enthusiasm!

Hip-Hop

Hip-hop dance is a street dance evolved from hip-hop culture and includes a range of styles, such as breaking, popping and locking. After a warm-up, class will focus on learning short combinations done to hip-hop music. No experience needed for the beginning class; six months of previous training recommended for advanced beginning and one or more years for intermediate.

Jazz Funk

This class uses a blend of dance styles in fun and funky choreography set to upbeat pop music. We do a thorough warmup utilizing traditional jazz and modern technique. We build strength, stamina, alignment and fluidity that facilitate dancers expressing through the choreography. This class is very high energy and fun! Some dance experience recommended, but adventurous beginners welcome.

Modern         Daytime section!

Modern dance evolved as a rebellion against the formality of ballet; it is more free and expressive but still emphasizes proper alignment and technique. No experience needed for the beginning class; one or more years of training recommended for intermediate. Some experience recommended but not required for the mixed-level class.

Modern Jazz

This soulful modern jazz dance class is based in the technique of legendary jazz dance teacher, Luigi. After a grounding warm-up, students will be challenged from the outside in and trained in both the expression and execution of movement. Set to eclectic, atmospheric and heart-thumping music, this modern jazz class will equip you with ballet foundations as well as with modern and jazz dance vocabulary and will keep you engaged, sweaty, and inspired. At least one year of dance training recommended for this intermediate/advanced-level class.

Tap

Everybody has rhythm. This class will help you find it and express it! We’ll work on tap dance fundamentals and apply them to choreography and improvisation to different types of music. One year of tap experience recommended for the intermediate class. For the beginners class, tap shoes are not required. Hard-soled shoes on a non-carpeted floor should be sufficient.

This class is a fantastic complement to any dance class you may be taking or an opportunity by itself to get in the stretching that your body needs. This class will help you improve your core strength, muscle control, and flexibility through a flow of moving exercises and static stretches.

Movement for the Moment

This class is especially designed to help us all stay grounded, strong, and connected to ourselves and each other during this difficult moment in human history. We’ll use elements of yoga, Pilates, dance, mindfulness meditation, and other mind-body practices such as Alexander technique, Feldenkrais, and Infant Developmental Movement/Body-Mind-Centering, all within a trauma-informed approach to teaching. Come as you are: tired, overwhelmed, anxious, stiff/sore, whatever! Leave feeling more calm, alert, ready to engage with the world, and resilient in the face of whatever comes our way.

This class is a great way to “let go of the day,” in preparation for restful sleep. Feel free to join in your jammies!

This class is inclusive of all, regardless of age, (dis)ability, movement experience, fitness “level”, etc.

Pilates Mat

The Pilates Method has become a favorite of dancers and others for its effectiveness in promoting flexibility and long, lean muscles. Floor exercises focus on strengthening the body’s core through precise movement, spinal alignment and integration of the breath. Exercises can be modified for all levels.

This fitness class will bring a healing vitalitity to your daily routine at home. We will utilize low-impact approaches using our own body-weight rather than props to strengthen our bodies and cardiovascular systems while reaping the benefits of improving the way we feel in mind and body. SharQui: Belly Dance Fitness

Get ready to shimmy and sweat in this new Bellydance Fitness Class! In each class, you’ll learn easy-to-follow belly dance combinations using a dynamic teaching system known as SharQui (pronounced Shar-‘Key), developed by world famous bellydancer, Oreet. Self-Care for Stressed Bodies – By Donation and Benefitting Local NonProfits 

In these unsettling times, we can all benefit from some extra self-care. This donation-based class will center around mental and physical wellness and is designed for anyone who wants to increase, develop or add to their wellness toolbox. Exercises include breath work, meditative techniques, and body work such as targeted muscle stretches and exercises to release pain and tension as well as improving body, mind, and spirits. This class is for all stressed bodies. For all walks of life. Movers and non-movers alike.

This class is by donation and FREE to people who identify as Black, Indigenous or Persons of Color. Please do register using the link below so that you will receive the  Zoom link; cost for the class will be $0.

Since the class began in July, 2020, attendees  donated over $600 to the Boys and Girls Club of Orange County. Profits after teacher pay from Fall Session #2 will be donated to the Community Empowerment Fund, which works to end the racial wealth gap by supporting members in reaching their employment, housing, and finance goals.
